Mr Lawrence works in Treefrogs all day on a Tuesday.

Teaching Assistants work as a team across EYFS so the following adults also support pupils in Treefrogs: Mrs Farr and Mrs Tomlinson.

This week in Treefrogs class: Week Beginning 20th July

This week, we have been enjoying end of term activities, including giving out all our learning from the year, having our class ‘Pyjama party’ treat and meeting up again with our Year 6 buddies!

In Literacy this week, as authors, we are continuing our system of voting each day for a story from our reading spine books in the reading area, where we learn a new piece of vocabulary from Vocabulary Victor to put into sentences.

In Autumn term, we explored the story: “Mixed,” the storytelling of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk,”  “The Colour Monster” and an animated story about ‘The Wombles’ and ‘Autumn leaves.’

Term 1, we focused on: ‘The Tiger Who came to Tea,’ ‘Dear Zoo’ , the story of ‘The Gingerbread man,’ an animated story of ‘Mr Benn at the zoo’ and finally for this term: ‘The Tiger who came to tea.’

Phonics Joe and Phonics Fairy: 

In Phonics this week, as authors, we have been revisiting all Chapter 3 sounds and have been reading them in words and captions.

We have also been recapping all digraphs and trigraphs that we have learnt so far: ng ch sh th th ai ee igh oa ue ow oi oo and oo ar or ur tch, ear and air and 2 ways of making the ‘er’ sound.

We constantly revisit all Chapter 2 phoneme: grapheme correspondences taught so far:

We:  ‘Sound it, squash it, say it’ and ‘Say it, stretch it, sound it’ with oral segmenting and blending of words and reading and writing words.

We have been learning the following Chapter 3 decodable high frequency words : children, then, them, this, that, with, see, now, down, too, look, for, her, can’t

And the Common Exception words: he, she, we, me, be, my, they, was, you, are, all, said, little

We continue to share our reading books from ‘Phonics shed’ and have been given new books for the week.

Vocabulary Victor’s words: 

As authors, we develop our vocabulary by using Vocabulary Victor’s words. Some of these words are chosen from books in the book corner and others are specific to different areas of learning.

We will add to the list as the weeks progress:

Author’s area: Rhyme, alliteration, initial sound, capital letter, digraph

Mathematician’s area: subitise, diagonal, more., fewer/less, same/equals

Artist’s area: paint, draw, sculpt, repeating pattern, tapping, stroking, printing, rolling, primary and secondary colours

Engineer’s area: join, attach, construct, improve

Geographers area: position, direction, map, arrows

Scientist’s area: invertebrate, insect, Senses, plant

Historian’s area: Past, future, museum

Questioning Parrot:

Questioning Parrot sets up challenges around the room that we can try out during Explorer Time each day.

Maths Wizard: 

In Maths this week, as mathematicians, we have been assessing all the maths passport objectives to see if we can get our final flags from Great Britain, before moving on to the Europe passport.

This has included: ‘1 more and 1 less,’ looking at number bonds to 5, ‘doubles’, making sets to 10 and matching the numeral, subitising and using the vocabulary of: “more, less, fewer and equal” to compare sets.

Our board in the mathematician’s area currently teaches all about the number 9.
